This year for me is dedicated to simplifying. To minimizing. And to making the time to enjoy the simple and minimal pieces of life. One of the simple things I have always enjoyed is fresh food. The act of placing five or ten ingredients on the kitchen counter, turning on some music and working them into some merry meal to enjoy with a loved one makes me happy. One of my goals for this year is devote more time to the creation of these meals and, of course, to fully enjoying them. To slow down and taste them.
So, I would like to introduce to you…Little Meals. It’s a section of the blog that will be dedicated to sharing photographs of the little meals in my life that bring lots of happiness. They may be big, they may be small; they may be made by me or they may be made by someone else. There aren’t going to be many rules. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that some won’t be meals at all. The mango I ate last week made me pretty happy indeed. As do brownies.

I thought I’d start this little addition with one of my favorite comfort meals: Pasta with Broccoli.
My grandma used to make this all the time and it was my favorite. Yep, I was the little kid that liked broccoli. I don’t make it often – because I feel all super special meals should only be prepared occasionally in order remain super special – but when I do, I am transported right back to my grandma’s kitchen. Warm and loud with lots of things bubbling on the stove and, when I was lucky, I was the one that tested the noodles to see if they were cooked. I made a little batch of it to take to her for Easter last weekend along with a few cactus pears which were another delicious treat usually only found in her kitchen.
Some of my favorite meals are simply favorites because of the memories they bring with them…
